From Scratch: Semola Pasta

  • Perth City Farm 1 City Farm Place Perth, WA, 6004 Australia (map)

If you've ever wanted to try making your own pasta from scratch but find the idea daunting, then this is the perfect class for you. Once you see how easy (and fun!) it is, you'll never go back!

Semola Pasta or "Water and Flour" pasta is the perfect type of pasta dough to make when starting out on your pasta journey. It is very easy, lends itself to making a huge array of hand rolled shapes - the majority of which don't require any special equipment. It also contains no eggs, so its suitable for vegans! That's right, vegan pasta!

In this hands on cooking workshop, you will have the opportunity to make your own semola pasta dough, as well as a number of different shapes:

  • Cavatelli

  • Maccherone

  • Orecchiette

  • Plus two different sauces to pair with your pasta

You will prepare these items yourself, with the sauces made in groups.

In addition to preparing the above items, we will also talk about the history of this pasta, types of flour and where to buy, drying and freezing pasta, and there'll be a demonstration of 'trickier' shapes that can be made with the same dough.

Included in this workshop:

  • Make your own pasta dough, three different shapes and two different sauces

  • Recipe cards for everything you make

  • Detailed handout with other shapes you can try (emailed after class)

  • Deailed handout for purchasing options and locations in Perth (emailed after class)

  • Apron to wear in class

  • Small class numbers for individual attention

  • Delicious pasta lunch that we will make together, served with insalata and Italian beverages

  • PLUS - containers to take home your leftovers, and a goodie bag with your own gnocchi board, dough cutter and flour so you can continue your pasta practice at home!

If you've never made pasta from scratch before, this is a great chance to have a go with a dough that is actually a lot easier than egg pasta, that you can make lots of fun shapes with.
